While headlines focus on the news that Harriet Tubman will be the first female to make her debut\u00a0on the front of a US bill in over a century; I gladly took this as a sign from the public of their continued support for cash. Plus, with the designs not set for completion, let alone circulation until 2020 at the very earliest; the U.S. Treasury\u2019s investment in cold hard cash is obviously an indicator of its continued place in the U.S. economy.<\/p>\n<h4>So are we really moving towards a cashless society?<\/h4>\n<p>We have all seen the headlines, \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.wsj.com\/articles\/the-political-war-on-cash-1455754850\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Political War on Cash<\/a>\u201d or \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/time.com\/money\/4307717\/getting-rid-of-cash\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Why Killing Cash Makes Sense<\/a>\u201d each warning of a cashless society hiding just around the corner, but just how accurate of a picture is this? Well, if you are to believe a source like the U.S Treasury, then the answer is that consumers will still have cash in their pockets for many more years to come.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-1698\" style=\"margin: 0px 0px 3px 5px;\" src=\"\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Cashless-Society.png\" alt=\"Cashless Society\" width=\"300\" height=\"161\" \/>Of course, working at Tellermate I have a vested interest in cash &#8211; so let\u2019s take a look at the facts. \u00a0A 2015 survey by CardTronics found that cash is \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.cardtronics.com\/cashsurvey\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">still prominent in [the] payments landscape<\/a>\u201d. Shortly before this, The Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco stated that \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.frbsf.org\/cash\/publications\/fed-notes\/2014\/april\/cash-consumer-spending-payment-diary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">cash continues to play a key role in consumer spending<\/a>\u201d. \u00a0UK authorities, such as the Bank of England and banknote printer De La Rue echoing the sentiment that \u201ccash is king\u201d, the reality of a cashless society appears far-fetched, not just for the US, but for some of the biggest economies in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Even countries such as Sweden, who are widely considered pioneers in the move towards a cashless society have faced widespread criticism. Reports that <a href=\"http:\/\/www.computerweekly.com\/news\/450280077\/Swedens-central-bank-puts-break-on-cash-free-society\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Sweden\u2019s central bank is putting the brakes on the cash-free society<\/a> have echoed concerns that the move towards cashless is mainly driven by politics, not the public.<\/p>\n<h4>What does that mean for your business?<\/h4>\n<p>With more than a million responses to the proposed changes to the design of the US bills, it is clear that the US public has not fallen out of love with cash just yet.<\/p>\n<p>For consumers, the benefits lie in its simplicity.
